TLC forge image as independent women

Singer Beyonce, the former lead singer of Destiny’s Child, credits TLC with having influenced just about every female group that’s out there now and definitely influenced Destiny’s Child.A leading music historian described TLC as” the most influential female group the world has ever seen.”

Their cultural and commercial impact can only be described as massive. The American girl group was formed in Atlanta in 1991 with the original line-up consisting of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.

“Waterfalls”, one of your favourites here at Lovesongs247, “Creep”, “No Scrubs” and “Unpretty” are among the group’s big international chart topping hits.

They recorded four multi-platinum albums including CrazySexyCool in 1994 which still remains the only album by a female group in history to receive a diamond certification.

With sales of over 75 million records internationally TLC is the best selling American girl group of all time. The accolades are really endless – five Grammy Awards, numerous MTV Video Awards the group significantly set the standard for contemporary R&B and paved the way for many girl groups and importantly cemented their image as independent women.

With songs like “Waterfalls” or “Unpretty” which address the issues of AIDS and female self-esteem, TLC showed they were able to take serious issues to the top of the charts. According to Billboard TLC is the second most success girl group of all time on the Billboard charts behind only the Supremes.

Following the death of Lopes in 2002, instead of replacing her, the remaining members chose to carry on as a duo. They’re scheduled to release their final album as TLC in 2017.

We’re all for girl power here at Lovesongs247!
